I have a HP Pavillon dv6-3040us running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It came with 4 megs of RAM (2 2gig sticks) so I went to the Crucial website and ran their system scanner and bought 2 4gig sticks. I installed them and it doesn't show that I have 8gigs, it still shows 4gigs. Not sure what to do now.
What speed RAM did you buy and what speed was in there before (should say on modules)? May need to go into BIOS and manually enter settings, or one of the modules could be bad.
I went to Crucial.com and used the tool to tell me what kind of RAM I needed, so I'm not sure of the speed etc.
If you go to Crucial it will tell you the speed....400/533/667/800? Some motherboards may have limitations on how much RAM you can use, especially in each RAM slot.
