Is this condition normal for intel CPUs?

I recently bought an intel core i7 920, but I'm not sure if the rubber (between the metal surface and PCB) that has partially squished out is a sign of wear/damage on the cpu. I am a little worried about this because this doesn't seem to appear on other intel cpus'.

Thank you!

  1. that is a little scary
I would be worried about thermal paste or dust getting in there
if it is possible to return or RMA I think I would
  2. That is the seal between the heat spreader cap and the small PCB on which the chip sits. It doesn't look bad enough to be a problem.

I would try it and see if it works before getting worried about it.

I wouldn't worry about it unless I started to see some high temps while running the processor. You can call our technical support at 916-377-7000 and they can take care of you.
