SO i just got my new xfx hd 6850 in the mail a couple days ago and i just cant get it to run up to speed no matter what i do.. The first thing i did was delete my drivers from my gt 240 and ran driver cleaner ,, i then put the new card and and rebooted .. stuck the xfx disk in and followed the instructions. i registered my product and got the newest drivers ,, but no matter what i do it wont run up to speed .. im getting about 13,500 3dmark 06 score( should be about 5000 more). basically all the bench marks i throw at it are about what i got a my gt240.. and even the gt240.s graphics look better.. ive reinstalled drivers .. i even reinstalled a frsh copy of windows 7 64. . windows experiance gives it a 7.7 , thats the only thing so far that is right .

here are my specs

cpu amd rigor 250 3.0 dual core

corsair xms DDR3 2X1 GIG 1600 2 GIGS TOTAL

WD 320 GIG SATA HD

BIOSTAR TA785G3 REV 6.3

XFX HD 6850

MY MOTHERBOARD IS PCIE 2.0 IS THAT AN ISSUE?

Please use only the graphics portion of 3Dmark for no doubt 3DMark is probably counting off Marks for your sub-par HDD, RAM, and CPU.

Most of the benches on 3DMark was done on testbeds with modern HDD's, 4GB+ of ram, and basically the highest end processors.

its not my cpu... i put a gtx 460 in the slot and it flew

guy with same build as me except a 245 rigor, is getting like 18,500

a 250 rigor is a good cpu does better in gaming than a lot of quads .. do people really think you need a quad core ?

i dont really expect to find an answer here, iunless maybe someone had the same issue with this card and i somehow missed some weird thing about it ,, ive built hundreds of gaming machines .. i just dont have any experience with this card

uninstall ati/nvidia drivers
reboot
run driver sweeper (guru3d.com), remove all nvidia display AND ati display
reboot
install latest ati drivers

try that

A guy with a 245 is getting 18,500? What guy? Some guy on the internet? LOL

He probably has his cpu and video card massively overclocked, that would be why......and why are you using 3dmark06, you know it's 2011 right? Maybe something more modern would make sense like 3dmark11... :hello:

yes that was the first thing i did .(and that it usually the case when gpu's are having this issue ). but if you go back.. i said that in the first post of this thread.. i even reinstalled windows just to make sure after that didnt work. i cant really think of anything else to do , im waiting for a new one in the mail from new egg. should be here tomorrow. ill slap that one in and see if it works .if that doesnt im going to use another main board i have ,

A gtx460 is a faster card.

So you upgraded from a Yugo to a Ford Torus expecting it to run like a Jaguar c-x75.
Overclock that cpu as much as you can and still be rock solid. As for the ram 2GB isn't much these days and 4-6gb is the sweet spot. What model is that hard drive as hard drive performance can greatly impact the performance of games and applications.

Actually a 460 and 6850 are almost identical for performance http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/291?vs=313

OP: What is the GPU score, not the full score? Your full score will be less because your CPU isn't fast. Running 3DMark Vantage I can gain a couple thousand points by overclocking from 3.75ghz to 4ghz... But the GPU score doesn't change much. Just the CPU score goes up, which affects the composite score.

So yeah. Compare your GPU score only. And run 3DMark11. It's free.

yeah the 460 as with any nvidia will be faster on the 3dmark bench's because of physics .. ati cards dont have it .. i almost returned my card and got a 470. but after lots of research i am realized my card is actually doing very well .. im getting almost 16,000 on 3mark 06.. thats with my 250 rigor at 3.6 o.c. and my ram at 1600 ..i only have 2 gigs of ram .. but my rig is perfectly tuned .. getting a 555 calisto with 6 mb cache would bump me up to the 18,000 to 20,000 .. the 1050 5 core will get me upwards of 23,000..

the 460 is a great card but not in general.. better price for sure , but uses more power

Mine configuration is prety much the same like yours its amd x2 240 oc to 3,5 with stock cooler 3 gb ram ddr2 1066 and VTX hd 6850 oc from (gpu 775 to 850 and memory form 1000 to 1200)and with oc grafic i get around 2500 more score on 3d 06.i wasnt able to max out all newer games just becouse of mine cpu,all dual cores are crap comparing to quad cores even the worst x4 is beter than best x2.

I got new Cpu Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz 8MB instaled it and tested all games i wasnt able to run on max setings(with new CPU dragon age 2dx11 avrg 50 fps ,crysys warhead dx 10 avrg 55 fps, battlefield BC 2 dx 11 avrg 48 fps,all on 1980x 1020)you will not be able to max out all games with dual core cpu's ,becouse all newer cards and games needs x4 cpu's to get max from them.
And last thing 2 gb of ram is low need 6 and more for best performance.
