Hello, at the moment I'm running 2 XFX GeFORCE 9600GSO 768MB DDR2 Fatality cards.I have room for a third card but I'm having know luck finding one.Have found the same XFX card but it's not the Fatality model.Would it work in a 3-Way SLI setup and would it be worth it graphics wise.I'm using a ANTEC 1000 W

You wouldn't have a problem with the PSU handling it, but you may not get the results you want. Going from 2 to 3 cards in SLI won't change much for you. SLI has quickly diminishing effects. It's not recommended you use more than two cards especially on lower end cards like your 9600GSO's. You'd be better to save the money for a new card.

The 9600GSO's are not 3-way SLi enabled.

take the current card and sell it on eBay or wherever, only looking at about $70/ea max if that much.
then but you a single better card.

Thank's for your replies lads.I'm just going to put the cards into my wife's machine and get myself a single card this time.I had been looking at an EVGA 460 OR 470 .You seem to be getting a decent warranty if you register within 30 days.I'm a retired DeepSea fisherman so I don't have loads of cash (around about £180). I've been playing games for well over 30 years now and have built all my own machines. The machine I use at the moment a X-CLIO WINDTUNNEL full tower-AMD AM2 Athlon 64bit X2 dual core 6000+-4gb DDR2-ASUS M3N-HT Deluxe Motherboard-22inch Samsung 3D Monitor and the two XFX Cards.I use two small 80 Gb hard drives with an O/S on each(Win XP Pro and Win 7 64bit home Premium)Two external 500gb drives hold most of the games I play. The machine is mainly for gaming and although a bit dated, has served me well. Have just completed Dead Space 2 and have played most of last years hits.Three son's two grandsons who are all gamers, and buy most of the games we play.Once again many thanks for taking the time to answer and oldie.Best wishes Grandad John 25/12/46

FYI
GTX470 is too strong of a card for the Athlon 64x2 6000+ (3.0 or 3.1GHz) versions doesn't matter..
GTX470 and GTX560Ti are basically the same price currently.
I have a slightly different version of your motherboard, I know it well.
Upgrading that processor is a recommended move..!
That board can run the latest processors with BIOS update.

Are you playing games from an external hard drive? I hope those are ESATA or USB 3.0, because anything slower could create a real bottleneck. I can't imagine trying to game from a USB 2.0 external drive.

Most are not however don't forget that Asus made one model that allowed for three way. It was available in normal retail such as Newegg during late 2008 through early 2009 and it is possible that others may have also done a three way model as well. The difference between two way and three way is all in the pcb and drivers. The cores them selves could support quad sli at the hardware level.

If it only has one connector then you are stuck with only two way.

Don't waste your time playing games off external drives and storage unless you absolutely need portability. Performance isn't going to be kind unless USB 3.0 or eSata.

spoke highly of you on another thread, something about a GT440 and HD5670, I can't remember specifics..
needed a nVidia 'specialist' for some detailed info.

Thanks for your advice,I've decided to forgo the new cards at the moment, and go with a new CPU.I can't really complain about the cards and have had them for over a year now.I've played a lot of the latest games on high settings without any problems so I'll make do for the moment.I have sent for a Phenom Black Edition and 4Gb of new memory.Somebody on the forum said the XFX GSO Fatality cards would not run in a 3 Way SLI Mode.well I E-Mailed the XFX website and the reply was that it wouldn't be a problem, that's if I could find one.Somebody else made a comment about wasting my time playing games from external hard drives.I've been doing this for some time now without any problems(Dragon Age-Fallout 3-FONV-BlachOps and have just finished Dead Space 2 in 3D)At 64 I don't intend to waste time. All I know about computers, which isn't a lot,is mostly self taught, but I just love gaming.Once again thank you for your time and I hope I can can call on you again,if ever the need arrises.Best wishes from Grandad John in Buckie NE Scotland

you can call on me anytime mate, no problems.
which phenom ii x4 be did you order.?
I ask because you might have to update the BIOS with your old processor before you install the new.
it's possible to game on external HDD's yes, but it's not optimal for performance.
example the external HDD's usually run @ 5400rpm's while the average HDD is 7200rpm's with several 10k rpm HDD's as well.
this is not including SSD's which are an entire different level of speed.
you are gaming yes, but you are also missing out of performance/bandwidth/response time running games on external.
I usually say that this is only my opinion when suggesting things but in this case it's fact.
maybe a high speed USB 3 device and USB 3 motherboard if external HDD gaming but anything else is a drawback/restriction.
so it might be OK for you but it can get better.
