The 8800GT-Ultra wins this hands down. The GT220 is meant to be the very-low end card in the GeForce 2xx series whereas the 8800GT-Ultra is the highest end 8-series card. Here are some comparisons.

8800-Ultra
612MHz Core
1.5GHz Shaders
1080MHz Memory
768MB @ 384-bit
103.7GB/s Memory Bandwidth
39.2 billion/second texture fill rate

GT220
625MHz Core
1.4GHz Shaders
790MHz Memory
1GB @ 128-bit
25.3GB/s Memory Bandwidth
3.2 billion/second texture fill rate

It won't max. out on the latest games at 1680x1050 but it is certainly the better choice of the two. Tell us your specifications and your budget. There are probably better solutions. Which operating system do you use?

They're the same in performance, similar in heat dispation and the HD 4850 is somewhat more efficient than the 8800 Ultra.

9800GT is the same as an 8800-Ultra but generates less heat apparently. I used to run a 9800GT and then upgraded to my current GTS450, I for one can see a great improvement in graphics quality and frame-rates. Then again, I run at only 1280x1024@70Hz

Personally the 8800ultra is a collectors card now and is still a great card for the performance. It wasn't till the GTX 260/280 ware there was a single card that was a true upgrade over the G80. Performance king of the gpu world for two years.

9800GT/8800GT isn't exactly the same as the 8800Ultra. They perform 10-15% slower than it, sometimes maybe more.
