Hello, I am going to be selling my PC I built a few months back. My question is what is a good asking price.

Here are the specs:

Intel I7 950 @ 3.07GHz Unlocked
6GB Memory
Windows 7 Home Premium 64
CoolerMaster HAF 932 Full
Corsair 750w PSU
Black 1TB HD
ASUS P8P67 Deluxe Motherboard
LG DVD Burner
nVidia GeForce GTX 570 Video
Onboard 7.1

I build a lot of gaming rigs each year. I usually do this for friends and just exchange for cost. I just really need a rough estimate here on this one. Would a 15% mark-up on cost be sufficient? The total cost for this build was $1600 roughly.

I was thinking of a selling price around $2000. I just do not want to over price and basically rip someone off.

Again, any input would be great.

Thanks.

How did you overcome the inherent difficulties of using a socket 1366 cpu with a socket 1155 mainboard? :)

(I'd be doublechecking model numbers of your MB pretty quickly....)

Good catch. The correct posting should have been the ASUS P6X58D. I use the other in the system I currently use. Thanks for the correction.

But to answer your 'how much' question, it would seem to be worth at least $1100-$1200 in individual parts if all purchased today....; if wanting it to sell to fund some other system, I'd shoot for $1099!

What I personally do is:

$25 for assembly
$50 for OS/driver installation with wire management
$100 for all that and an OC on the CPU

But I really enjoy doing it so those are just my prices. For OS install/cable management and OC I spend anywhere from 3-10 hours depending on the build. So I figure $10-$30 an hour isn't bad for something I enjoy alot more than my day job.

The real benefit that the customer never fully appreciates is customizing the PC for them specifically based on their needs/use.

I never charge my friends, and in fact invite them over to my house for dinner, beer and assembly. They all love it, and none of them believe that it only takes a phillip screwdriver to assemble.(We're all jet mechanics with piles of tools at work)

Also when I teach them assembly I always make them install the CPU. Its the most important component, and they always have a sense of pride of being the one to personally install it.

I know you have already picked a best answer but I wanted to share that when I sold my first build, I just broke even on cost. It was three months old at time of sale and I only posted it at my college for 50 cents. No hassle with shipping since I sold it to a local. If you have a college in your city you might see if you can post it there, right after a semester starts would be the best time since students get fin aid refunds. Hope you computer sells quick for you.
