Run two wifi routers simultaniously

My current Thompson Speedtouch 570 is getting on a bit and we are finding the signal strength
is low on a computer in a different part of the house.

I have a new Thompson Speedtouch 585 v6 which came with a new AOL contract but which
I have never used.
Can I connect this via a dual telephone socket and switch off the 570 so that I can switch
between the two routers ?

There's not much point in running two router but simply replacing the old with the newer will probably make a difference. If only one computer is affected, though, the reason might be something metallic blocking or hindering the signal to that particular place.
