I previously posted a thread for $1700 but my father wants me to help him prepare a build first.

We're trying to keep a budget of $800 and want it to last 3+ years. Our goal is to make a fast computer. I looked into a SSD but the cost will put us over budget. Though I have my own laptop, I find myself using the desktop a lot so I want it to be fast enough.

Approximate Purchase Date: 4-29-11

Budget Range: $800

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Multipurpose

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: NewEgg, tiger direct and possibly amazon. Open to new and reliable websites

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: Intel for processor. Other parts are flexible.

Overclocking: Yes (after seeing how stock speeds perform)

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080. Looking for good deals and quality.

Additional Comments: I'm looking for a good balance among performance, reliability and energy/eco friendly. My father pretty much said, "I want to go fast then faster."

Are these compatible and efficient?

Edit 1:
Thanks ukee for noticing that. I actually thought I include the PSU.

The ASUS motherboards have a whole bunch of power control tools that are useful. The ASUS P8P67 would be a good drop in for the MSI board!

Do you really need a Blu-ray? for software Blurays are never going to be utilized so unless your watching HD movies

Your missing a Power supply! Seasonic 620 watt from newegg!

GPU ... Will this be used for gaming? As you are on a tight budget I'd recommend the 5750 from AMD RADEON. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125324 If no gaming then you can probably drop down even lower to a 5600 range or the nvidia GTX440

Thanks ukee. The seasonic looks very promising and I may choose it. The desktop would be used for very light gaming (little cousins). I'll look into the Nvidia GTX440. I personally wanted just a CD/DVD+RW combo but my father insisted on blu-ray.

Thanks again!

You're unlikely going to need the 2500k. I'd go with with the 2400 like genghis suggested. Snatch one up from Microcenter.com, they have the most amazing deals on chips. I'd say a 5750/5770 would suffice for your gpu. Not quite sure what you're leaning towards as far as usage goes. Other than that, cute build. :)

actually with a 2400, I'd suggest the ASRock H61M/U3S3 which is only $79.99

has pretty much all the features you need on the $100 more expensive P67. It doesn't do RAID, and it doesn't do crossfire/SLI.

I'd get the $75 corsair RAM, tthe 430W PSU, And the Seagate 1TB drive that is $59.99 instead of the WD 500 GB.
also, there is an Acer 23" monitor that is $149.99, I'd suggest that over the viewsonic.

I will get the Acer monitor later. Unless there is a good (compatible) touchscreen. Should I get a warranty for the CPU; Mobo and the GPU? Or just one?
