When I run "DXDIAG" and view the display tab, it says "Approx. Total Memory: 752MB"
This card has 2GB of video memory and is BRAND NEW. What could be causing my video card to lose 1.3GB of memory?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (Always Updated)
6GB DDR3 1333
750W Power Supply
AMD Athlon II x4 640 3.28GHZ
MSI 870a AM3 770 Fuzion

Heres the GPUZ link: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/cumqu/

GPUZ is reporting the correct memory size! Dxdiag is approximating! I would guess a glitch with dxdiag.

Yea I was thinking the same thing. But what confused me is when I loaded up a game, it told me the same thing "GPU Memory 752MB".

P.S-Thanks for the response.

The game is probably using dxdiag to get the memory size, do you get any performance drops with eye candy (AA, AF) turned on?

I've never heard of a graphics card "losing" memory so I wouldn't worry about it.

Cards with dual graphics use the VRAM differently. It is basically cloned to assist with AA and other things but the games actually see 1GB of usable memory.

Catalyst Control Center will tell you how much RAM you have. I assume it will report 2GB. It's under:

I only get a performance drop in one game(Star Wars Galaxies) but every other game is fine.

Metro2033 on complete max: AVG: 43fps

I guess I'll have to live with my fps failing in SWG, thanks for the help and replies.

Evidently this is a known issue with DXDIAG and may have cause problems in some games. See Microsoft Knowledge Base website below.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2026022

I also have a HD 6970 I just got and it shows my Approx. Total Memory as 748 MB. I can't remember what it showed with my previous cards I had in SLI.

I know in WoW if you pick Recommended settings it puts in only Good because I don't think its detecting the card features right. But I put it on Ultra with 4x AA and it cranks out the FPS no problem 70-80 in high drag Stormwind. I also played Dragon Age 2 demo with it and found it keeps up 60 fps the whole time with DX11 accept when the big fireball spells go out and it drops a bit to high 30's.

I also kept a GTX 285 card in my system and got it to work as Physx with the special fix for it mentioned in review on this website. Wish I had Metro2033 to try that out hehe.

Not sure its worth keeping that in my machine though as there are no Physx games I play currently from looking at the list of supported games on Nvidia's website.
