Hi,

I recently installed an ASUS GTX560 graphics card and noticed that the speed of my CPU has drop (according to CPUZ and Speccy).

I have a Q9400 2.66Mhz, 4 GB DDR2 and a Gigabyte Motherboard, Windows 7 64-bit. I had overclocked the CPU to 3.2Mhz but after the install noticed that the CPU was running at 2Mhz. I tried overclocking again but only managed to get to 2.3Mhz.

Any ideas? Is it a PSU problem, I have a 700W but have 4 hard disk drives installed.

Regards
Kevin.

Just a thought here:

Maybe if your old card was really outdated and as such pushing some load on the cpu thus maxing out the cpu frequency at 3.2ghz.

Since you installed the new 560, no extra load is being pushed to the cpu so intels auto setting, usually intel speedstep, automatically decreases the cpu frequency as the extra speed is not required and this saves power etc.

A way to test is, open up a benchmarking program and let it run, at the same time check cpu z, the speed should jump up to 3.2ghz

Also try disabling intel speedstep in the bios and then check.
