I know there are many threads on this but I am upgrading again and wondering if I have enough power with my corsair 1200. Here will be my system specs.
gigabyte z68 ud7
2600k
corsair h80
16 gigs corsair vengeance
2 vertex 3 240
3 evga gtx 580 suerclocked
1 2tb wd black
1 1tb wd black
corsair 800d with 8 fans
1 blue ray burner

I know the system is overkill but I dont care right now. I have the money to spend and I will but I need to make sure there is enough power.

Shows a system using an i7-965, which is more power hungry than any Sandy Bridge CPU, drawing 933W at the wall. Take 10-20% off that number to account for the efficiency of the power supply and you will have what their system actually drew, which is probably a good idea for a worst case for your own system. Thus they were drawing ~840W from their system.
I think I would trust a Corsair AX-1200 to deliver that, wouldn't you?

Guru3D were actually using a 1200W PSU themselves.

lol @ 3x 580s... are you trying to get rid of your space heater?

Anyway yeah if it's the AX 1200 I can't see there being an issue.

Also you're going to lose performance with 12 gigs of RAM, compared to 8. The more sticks you add the worse off you are for responsiveness. Unless you're doing massive encoding stuff like video editing you really don't need more than 6 usually, 8 being a great amount to leave headroom.

But can I ask why 3 580s? Like, what are you hooking this up to? 3 120hz 2560x1600 monitors??
