Quick music production build question

I will compile a build list later on after my main question is answered. I haven't built my own computer in almost 4 years... So I'm a bit outdated. I plan on doing music production and recording with Ableton, Pro tools, and many VST's. I plan on doing an intel i7 sandy bridge build my only question is that I know the z68 chipset is set to come out soon looking like within a month? I was wondering if that's something worth waiting for, for the tasks I will be using my computer for.

If you are going to be using Pro Tools, this alert is from the D.U.C. (Digidesign's forum)
Quote:
ALERT!!! Intel discovers design flaw in support chip used with 2nd gen i7 processors (Sandy Bridge).
Should be avoided for the time being, I guess...
BTW this is what I am building my new i7 machine for as well, good to see another newcomer building one too... :D

Cheers

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. What's your budget looking like?

z68 is the p68 but with onboard graphics support and will support SSD caching. Whether or not you want the z68 will largely depend on what you'll be using your computer for. If you are planning on doing any graphic intense gaming or work, you'd probably be better off going with some sort of board that supports Crossfire/Sli.

As far as the hard drive caching goes, there hasn't been a whole lot of info released on it yet. If you're wanting a SSD it could be something you may want.

I'll post up my specs a little later to see what you/people think.

Haha, I was posting my reply as you responded wb. Yes, it is. I searched for DAW builds but I don't think I saw any SB builds.

This alert *may* be referring the P67 c hipset/SATA bug, already fixed with Rev B3 mainboards now on the market.

Well my budget is around 1500.. 1700 tops. As far as gaming goes I won't be doing much of that on this build I have another computer for that plus I don't game nearly as much as I use to. The most graphic intense I would get is a youtube video. This build is going to be strictly for Ableton, Sound Design, recording, and various internet tasks like downloading and uploading all things music production related.

If you're not planning on gaming with it, you should be able to get a really good i7 SB build done for under your budget.

You might want to wait for the x68 then or get a p68 and a small, cheap graphics card.

Are you going to be running a multi monitor setup? If so make sure that whatever card/board supports it.

I still need help figuring out what I need in a graphics card. I don't really game, but lately have started about it. However, I'd rather save money now on my build, and perhaps upgrade later if need be.

I won't be running two monitors when I get the build, but it is something I do want in the new future. I guess the thing I want to know is if the z68 will have better overclocking abilities then the p67. As far as waiting for the x68 I can't find much on anything about them releasing soon unlike the z68 which is rather soon.
