In short, yes you should be able to run a PCIe 2.0x16 in the 1.0 slot, but it will not run at its stock speed, will be underclocked to run at native speed.

that means the performance will not be the same as in benchmarks ??

will the performance be reduced drastically or marginally ?

Although PCI-E X16 2.0 is "Faster" than PCI-E X16 1.0, the performance difference isn't much, since most modern SINGLE graphics cards cannot fully utilize all the bandwidth the X16 provides.

Only with the fastest graphics cards available (the ones that are $400) you'll experience differences and a PCI-E X16 2.0 slot is needed. Performance is nearly IDENTICAL between a 1.0 and 2.0 slot if you have a under $300 card; there may be 0%-3% difference and that's about it.

Yes, but wouldn't hurt to double your RAM.
