Unique Photo Rename Utility

I need a photo rename utility to rename my D70 images in the form of the
actual files date as the prefix + underscore + this incremental suffix, as
shown below.

Anyone know of a utility that will do *exactly* this:

original filename
DSC00100

new filenames:
YYMMDD_1
YYMMDD_2
YYMMDD_3
YYMMDD_4
YYMMDD_5
YYMMDD_6
YYMMDD_7
YYMMDD_8
YYMMDD_9
YYMMDD_A1
YYMMDD_A2
..........
YYMMDD_A9
YYMMDD_B1
YYMMDD_B2
..........
YYMMDD_B9
YYMMDD_C1
YYMMDD_C2
..........

Yes, a free utility called rename master, do a google search on rmv237.zip,
that's the name of my version, I suspect that 237 may be a version number so
get latest.

Hi,

I have a somewhat similar problem. My CF 512 MB card currently has 70 images,
but due to deletions along the way, the JPEG numbers have gone from 100-099
through 101-072. My PC and printer seem to treat the deleted JPEG areas as
intact, for 70 images should easily fit into the file of 100-099. Is there any
way, any software, that will let me make the JPEG numbers consecutive and
equal to the number of actual images? (I use Canon S500 digital Elph.)

Thanks a lot.

Thanks. After reviewing many, this is the most powerful, cleanest executable
and easiest to manage that I've seen yet and almost does what I need. It's
also free. I love it.

The yymmdd_ thing works like a charm, now I just need it to know that when
it hits 9, start with A1, then when it hits A9, start with B1, etc. If I
could only build a lookup table for this system to use to consult for my
naming standards when performing the rename so that it knew my scheme was
1-9, A1-A9, B1-B9, C1-C9.....

ACDSee will do that.

Billy,

As someone else already mentioned rename master may do this. It can
rename based on EXIF attributes as well. I use it and it works great.

If I understand correctly what you're asking, so will Irfanview.

My freeware utilty, DIM : Digital Image Mover will do just this. It
completly free, and cross-platform (PC, Mac, Linux/Unix, etc.).

It can be downloaded from http://www.alanlight.com/dim/Dim.htm

Enjoy!
