Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards HTPC Question RE: Wiring

Greetings!

I recently moved and have a question concerning my HTPC setup and wiring…

I previously had the following setup- Nvidia GTS 250 w/ clone displays @ 1080p resolution (one going to Plasmsa TV via HDMI Cable and the other to 24in monitor in upstairs office via long DVI Cable.) This setup worked great for me, as I could use 1 PC as my HTPC and Office Workstation.

I moved and I can no longer have a long DVI cable running from the office to the living room as the house is 1 story unlike the last, but I want to have the same setup, or as close to it as possible. Are there any devices that you guys would recommend that would work for me? Perhaps wireless HDMI? I have a 7.1 sound system setup as well, so that would be a plus, but if 5.1 is as good as I can go then so be it. I have yet to convince the other half to let me hand some speakers somewhere  Moreover, I don’t care whether the computer is with the home theater equipment (in the living room) or with the office equipment (in the office)… just whatever will be easier/cheaper/better.

My other option would be to build a totally new PC to use as an HTPC only. I built my current machine with the expectation I can get rid of 2 machines, and it has worked great, until the move.

Thanks in advance for your ideas/suggestions!

Chris

Not very knowledgeable in this area, but I would just go with wireless HDMI. Be aware that not all wireless HDMI supports 1080p so you need to look at the specs.

Below is a video for the HD FLOW HDS-100 which my suit your needs.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was looking to doing this without running any wires, otherwise I would just run HDMI, but Office and Living Room are on opposite ends of the house.

I believe the maximum range for the HD FLOW HDS-100 is 130 feet so it or some other similar product seems to be the right fit for you.

maybe cheaper and easier just to get another low end PC......or one of them wireless media player devices.

Another option is a low end PC in the office and connect to the other PC using remote desktop.

It really depends on what you do at each location. You don't need much PC power to act as a HTPC, and you don't need much to act as a remote desktop terminal. So you could have the more powerful computer at either location.

The wireless media player sounds liike a good option to me, then move the PC into the office.
