Hi folks. I just yesterday bought the Asus HD 5850 with 1gb of ram then today a sapphire 5870 w 2gb of ram was on sale for the same price. Os the obvious better card the sapphire? Yes it has more ram and higher speeds but I thought I would ask. Thanks.

hd 5870 is definitely better than a hd 5850.but hd 5850 is still a good card.prices goes up and down.this keeps happening.if the hd 5850 serves your needs fine then obviously no need to go with hd 5870 but if not then yes hd 5870 is better choice as it has better memory clocks and more bandwidth and more video ram.

Yeah, much better. If it's not a big pain in the ass I'd definitely exchange it.

The 2GB of VRAM will only matters if you play beyond 1920 x 1200 resolution. It's really meant for Eyefinity. Basically the higher the resolution you play at the more textures are loaded onto the video card for it to use. Otherwise, you take a small penalty hit for the textures to load onto the video card if there is not enough VRAM to load the necessary textures.

Yeah but even if it was a 1gb card, it's a 5870. They are quite a bit faster than 5850s.
