I plan on making this purchase in the next 3 days.

Alright I currently have :

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 830 @ 2.80 GHz

MOBO: AMD 785G

And I want to get this:

GPU:
MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

All other components are taken care of.

My question is. Are these parts compatible?

Also, is this a good enough setup for gaming?

Current Card: ATI HD 4200

the 5770 is a bit weak for some games (Crysis) at some resolutions, IMO; I'd try hard to find funding for either the 5850/6850 or GTX460(1gb)

I'd also review benchmarks showing the inexpensive i3/2100 outframing pretty much all x3/x4/X6 cpus in games, save for those clocked perhaps 800-900 Mhz higher than the i3...

Would I be okay though if I overclock my CPU and get the HD5850? he most demanding game I plan on playing is Crysis Warhead and Crysis 2. (No AA)

A 5850 is actually cheaper than 5770's right now, sapphire has dropped their prices to a near ridiculous level right now.

Yes you'll be fine. Gaming is much more GPU than CPu limited, especially at higher res with eye candy on.
