Hello everybody,

I feel extremely stupid, but my situation is really like that:

I live in Kathmandu/Nepal, just got a laptop donated for our
organization and do not know how to use it. It is an IBM THINKPAD 390
E, PENTIUM II, second hand and without any instruction.

I am used to work with a normal PC but not on a laptop without mouse.

So how to move this `direction mark` which is sitting in the middle of
the screen so that I can click on the items I need, like opening and
closing a page, saving, pasting something etc.

Helpless, but not hopeless...;-)

There's a little red button ("trackpoint" ) in the center of the
keyboard. Just move it around with your finger, i.e. push it leftward
to move the cursor to the left, etc.

You can also plug a normal PS/2 mouse into the computer. There should
be a connector on the back (or maybe on the side) for that. A normal
mouse is more comfortable to use, but it's an extra thing to carry
around with the computer, so the computer also includes that little
button.

Paul,

this is great, now things are really moving.

I just have to find out, how to put all the things here from the German
into English language for our nepali staff.

I am trying with the `Help System` but am not successful yet. Perhaps
the ThinkPads are in one language only and changing not possible ?

I'd expect the software is configured for one language and you have to
install a different version to get another language. But there is
certainly an English version. There are lots of people who love to
mess with this stuff. Over here, we call them nerds and they are
everywhere. Don't you have any over there who can help you?

Paul,

yes indeed. This Help System says now, that I have to install something
new there with a CD, this might be the right thing.

So for today I am happy with the result. In Kathmandu we have plenty of
specialists, but to get one is not easy...they might not come on their
motorbike because it rains (premonsoon now) or because there is again
one of these demonstration for the king or against the king or for
democracy or whatever, this is a country in civil war, actually. When
they arrive at last, then the electricity goes off for two hours, so
again one has to postpone everything.

So let us hope the best and do some Buddhist exercises with
visualization of the unchangeable Buddha nature which we all have and
which we are not able to reveal in this life because of ignorance and
obscurations as result of negative karma.

Shanti,

Martha
