There are AM3+ compatible boards out for around the same money, also if your want crossfire in the future you might want a M/B that supports dual x8 PCI-e slots. Not to many people are building AMD right now because the 9xx series chipsets along with bulldozer cpu's will be out in about a month and at the present time intel is out performing AMD even in the budget range. If you do get the phenom II maybe you should just get the 955 since it has the unlocked multiplier and should be able to be overclocked to about the same speed as an overclocked 965.

hmm, I think the 9xx boards are out already, just saw a few the other day, pretty expensive though.

So your suggesting I wait until the new AMD CPU's come out?

I also dont plan to Crossfire, Im putting a single Nvidia. Most likely a GTX 470

Well no one knows what the pricing or the performance will be like for the new processors so only wait if you want to. Where did you see the 9xx series chipset boards I cannot find any, the only am3+ boards I can find are still using the old 8xx series chipsets. Although it will be worth your time if you at least look into the intel processors. If you dont want crossfire/sli that board will be fine, I was just suggesting the am3+ boards because I happen to own that board and I'm disappointed that I won't be able to upgrade to a bulldozer cpu, if only I had bought the M4A89GTD I would be able to upgrade in the future (see asus am3+ press release). Unfortunately, when I bought it I thougt that the new cpu's were going to be supported on the am3 socket.

Here is a board that might be a good choice for you, price is 112.86:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=13-157-244&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=4&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=%28keywords%29#scrollFullInfo

It supports AM3+ cpu's for the price of an am3 only board, it has sata 6.0 GB/s and USB 3 also.

Here is some more info for Asrock and their other AM3+ ready boards:

Thank you for helping.

Im not too sure about an ASRock board because They are a new brand that ive never heard of. Also cheap compared to the rest of the boards. Are these really trustworthy?

I do want to go with AMD, Intels sandy bridge products are a bit out of my price range. I do like the idea of going with the AM3+ boards because I can upgrade in the feature to a new series of CPU.

What boards support the AM3+? like is it only the 8xx series. What series of boards support it?

BTW: I just purchased and EVGA Nvidia GTX 470. Pretty proud of myself. Now I just have to order up a system to run it. :D

Well here are the Asus boards currently out supporting am3+:
http://event.asus.com/2011/mb/AM3_PLUS_Ready/
Asus is using a bios update on their older high end M/B's.

Here are the Asrock boards:

Gigabyte:

Keep in mind not all of these can currently be found yet, expect more to come available online as we get closer to the release date of bulldozer.

I live in Alaska. Check amazon out first for most of your parts.. "Free Shipping".

Yes, I have looked on Amazon, There prices are more expensive and as long as im buying smaller parts, Newegg is cheaper even with the shipping.

Ive looked and all the AM3+ boards are either out of stock or micro ATX which I dont want.

I heard something about being able to update AM3 boards to the new AM3+ CPU's with a BIOS change? Is that true? If so I will prolly buy a AM3 board and update it.
