When you ask most(tech) people what will be more powerful they will say DUH the Gtx 590 because the Gtx 580 is faster then the Amd radeon 6970 and the Radeon 6990 is 2 6970's, and they Gtx 590 is 2 Gtx 580's

This is what i say

The pci-e standards says you can only have 300watt Graphic cards...

on avg the Gtx 580 is only 13% faster- http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6970/29.html - then the Radeon 6970 while needing a shy 10% more watts on max (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6970/27.html)

(AMD estimates the average wattage draw for gaming is 190W/140W for the 6970/6950, respectively. while the gtx 580 is 244watts) ha ha amd estimates!!!-keep that in mind-

amd has around 100 watts to play with while nvidia only has around 60watts

what this means is nvidia will have to down clock there cards more or do other things to it more then amd will!

ok so whats better CF or SLI

the best example of this is to compare the Amd radeon 6850 versus gtx460 1GB in sli and crossfire (note CF used to suck when compared to Sli)
heres a site on this read it all not the total amount clearly these cards are almost equal by there selfs but when there in CF and SLI it a diffrent story the Amd radeon 6850 and the Gtx 460 are tied or the 6850 usally 5% faster.except for Final Fantasy XIV where it sucks!

im sure people can find facts that are opposites from mine im not trying to say one will be more powerful then the other. But i do believe it will be to close to tell!!!

hope lots of people comment on this one..i really want to know other people idea's or facts or tell me if my facts are wrong

I guess we wuda known in a week if February release date had held.

Now peeps are saying April

Both the 590 and 550 Ti are in the new beta driver

http://news.softpedia.com/news/Nvidia-GTX-590-and-GTX-550-Ti-Made-Official-by-New-Beta-Driver-184814.shtml

Last year, when the GTX 580 was listed in a development driver, it only took Nvidia two weeks to make the card official.

Here's another look .... the totals of 455 and 434 are close .... but 794 in SLI vs 701 in CF its spreading.

Games used in test - For example, COD-MW got 123 fps on the 560, 200 in SLI ..... COD-MW got 111 fps on the 6870, 140 in CF

COD-MW
Bad Company 2
Dirt 2
Far Cry 2
Metro 2033
Dawn of Discovery
Crysis Warhead

remember that the 6950 is suppised to compete with the 560ti

At this point, I just have more confidence that Nvidia has a better chance of producing the faster dual gpu card, while keeping it cool, quiet, and stable. With AMD frequently delaying their releases lately, with the company up for sale, and with the documented Crossfire problems in their latest 11.2 driver release, at this point, things don't look good for the 6990.

If you do not mind noise, huge power intakes, and a Hefty price. I would say the 6990. This card has 4 gbs of graphics memory. I would take this card and over Nvida card any day of the week. This card is the most powerful avaiable for the consumer. If you want to crossfire them: it will be very expensive to buy, and the powersupply need to power them will be huge. If you can swing it I would say go for it.
