We've got no idea what you're asking...
A ssd is a replacement for permanent storage, ie the mechanical HD.
A RAM disk is the usage of RAM for temporary high performance system storage and is not permanent.

I think the question is about the pcie card that you can use to plug ram into it and use it as a harddrive. IMO its not worth it. I've seen 4 ram slots at max on those type of cards. Since 4gb is the largest ram can get, you'll have a max of 16gb hard drive which is not close to enough. Even if you could get a bigger setup, the $/gb is not worth it. Performance wise, there's better performance with ram based ssds but you will have sufficient performace with normal ssds.

I can't understand your post but I understood your title so I based my answer on your title so... I hope it helps.

I'm sorry for my ambiguous post, I'll try to clarify it.
I was reading an article about speeding up a system via "Ramdisks". As Win 7-32 bit is only able to use 4gb of Ram. It suggests you can use additional ram (for example the other 12gb if you're running 16gb of ram, as an additional hard disk. This disk, referred to as a Ramdisk is used for swap files and page files. This removes the interaction between the mechanical storage HDD and the O/S resulting in a faster system.

My question is whether or not this method would be as fast as using a SSD alone and if so, would it be practical to run a combination of both ie a Ramdisk and an SSD
Hope it is more concise and to the point.
Thank you so much..............

Instead of doing that, and if you're running 16gb of ram, I would turn off pagefilling completely. 16gb is enough ram to run without having the hdd do the work. Ramdisk is unnecessary. All its basically doing is forcing it to do what ram is supposed to do. Just turn off pagefiling. Its the same thing.

Get an ssd and with 16gb of ram turn off pagefiling.

Or you can get windows 7 and see the performance increase from being able to use all your 16gb. Just in case you might not know, swapping and pagefiling to your hdd is done when your computer does not have enough ram to store information. It basically uses your hdd temporarily as ram. But if you have 16gb already, that amount will be more than enough to run windows 7 along with most programs without having to pagefile. Not having to pagefile will greatly increase your performance since your pc will only have to gather information from your ram instead of your slower hdd. ramdisk is basically the same thing as this but I think that actually using it as ram would be much better for you.

Thanks for all that info bear95. I'm running Win 7 32bit, I thought it only recognises 4gb of ram unlike the 64bit that can use 16gb?
