Well recently purchased this card because I felt like upgrading from a XFX 9800 GT (512mb). The card looks great and is very silent compared to the 9800. My only issue is the frame rates I'm getting. My example will be with Call of Duty 4; with my 9800 I could easily get 91 FPS, once I switched to the 5850 I'm only getting ~50 FPS (strangest part is if I look directly up in the air I get 91 FPS..). I overclocked it to 825/1125 which got me to the ~50 FPS. I tried looking at overclocking settings people have been getting by searching google, nothing seems t be working.

So my real question is this: Could this card be bottlenecking from my CPU? Or is the thing not getting enough power?

I'm usually good with this type of thing, but I don't really no what else I can do.

Final thought: How did a 512mb card run better than a 1GB card??

Are you comparing the cards on same in game settings, AA & AF settings and resolution? The HD5850 is substantially more powerful than the 9800GT the memory has nothing to do with the speed difference.

What is your build? If you were running a 9800GT, I doubt it can even fully utilize a 5850. But rolli59's right--are you using the exact same in-game settings? Because my 512MB GTS 250 (9800GTX+) screamed through Call of Duty 4 too when on high (not max) settings.

Yes, all settings are the same. Except for resolution, but I don't really think that it has a large effect on FPS (I could be wrong :\).
My Build:
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz
EAH5850 @ 825/1125
6GB DDR2
650W PSU
500GB HD

Resolution has a large effect on FPS
1920 x 1080 = 2073600 total pixels to process.
1280 x 1024 = 1310720 total pixels to process.
There is a big difference in those numbers above the higher the resolution the harder the card has to work.
Your CPU at 2.4 GHz was a good match with the 9800GT now it is holding back your new powerful card that has big potential. If you can overclock to 3+GHz then you would see some good increase in fps.

The 5850 is way more powerful than the 9800gt.Make sure you have the latest drivers for the 5850.It will make no difference between the 2 running at the same settings but if you could O.C. your CPU you should see a huge gain.

What resoultion are you at and what were you at before?

Thanks for the reply rolli. That's what I thought the issue was but I didn't know for sure. I was planning to get a AMD Phenom II X6 cpu, so this works out perfectly.
