Beer Budget Build on Champagne Taste

Hello all. I'm a first time poster and builder. I did a little research and decided to ask the experts. Let me start off my letting you know what the computer will be used for.

This will be used for running a small business( research, surfing, excel, word, etc.), daily use(email, downloading, video editing, CD/DVD making), and I like to game a few days aweek. COD's and looking forward to Battlefield 3.

I was thinking AMD price wise but I have a gamer friend that swears by Sandy Bridge and he suggested the i5 2500k.

Somethings I would like to reuse thermaltake blackwidow 550w PSU, 9800 GT OC GPU, WD Caviar Black1TB, and dvd drive.

Budget is $550-$600
I have been looking at the following:
AMD 955 BE

Cooler Master 922 case (really liking this case with the 200mm fans)

ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3

Patriot Inferno 60GB SATA II SSD

( I like this one due to the reviews on newegg would use for OS and a few games.)

I need a good memory match. I have no idea maybe DDR3 1600...Please recommend a specific one.

Please give me better builds for the money if you can think of them. I would be open to other options if you guys think of something better for my needs. I will probably overclock some if needed. And will I need an aftermarket CPU fan if I overclock on air only? I am open to Intel or AMD...looking to future proof as much as I can.

Sorry for the long post but thought you might want to know all the info.

  5. Looks good Why_Me. I was kind of leaning toward a Asus, Gigabyte, or MSI mobo. But like I said I'm open to different ideas. Is going with a SSD not a good idea? I will probably go with my existing GPU for now then upgrade later.

SSD's are great, but getting decent FPS with Battlefield 3 and your resolution...well that 9800 isn't going to cut it. You can always add an SSD later but for now I would concentrate on FPS.
  7. your budget is too low to add an ssd without cutting serious fps
  8. Well I could cut back on the resolution some I'm sure and go that route. For now anyway. I'm only using a 22" monitor. Well what other builds would you recommend?
  9. Well as luck would have it my 22" died last night and now I will be using my 19" acer back up for awhile. It only has 1440x900 res. I could use a little more imput please guys. Dont get me wrong Why_me. I like your build ideas I just want a few more options and ideas. If I go back to a higher res. monitor how do you like the ati 5850?
  10. Also, Looking at my original AMD build to future proof and prep for Bulldozer in a year or two (price will be too hight initially for me). What would you recommend with the existing 955 be? Would you go with the AM3+ sockets or use a bios upgrade Asus is using for qualified boards? Which board would you recommend?

It's still not even official if BD will be using AM3+ yet.
  12. Its hard to suggest anything aside from the i5 2500k for gaming right now, imo.
  13. It was harder in 2011 but now your budget is enough for "premium bourbon" http://www.canard-duchene.fr/en
