Hello all,
Looking for an upgrade and would like to get some opinions.
Current System which I'm going to turn into a HTPC is:
System Information
------------------
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110408-1631)
System Model: Maximus II Formula
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM (GEIL EVO Dragon)
---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series (5850)
Display Memory: 2422 MB
Dedicated Memory: 1015 MB
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor Name: SyncMaster XL2370(Digital)
Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz)
---------------
Disk Drives
---------------
1 x Western Digital Velociraptor 600 GB SATA III 10000 RPM 32 MB Cache
3 x Seagate Barracuda XT 2 TB 7200RPM
Already bought a Thermaltake DH 202 VJ80011N2Z Digital Home Series HTPC Case for the above components. Will the above make a good HTPC?
For the new system I've only bought a Corsair Professional Series Gold High-Performance 1200-Watt Power Supply CMPSU-1200AX and a Intel 510 Series 250 GB SATA Version 3 2.5-Inch Solid-State Drive to put the OS on it.
Also my case is a Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 Full tower so I hope not get in trouble with the new Graphic Card. I love this case.
Now I'm thinking for:
CPU/ Mobo
i5 2500k or i7 2600k with a Maximus ASUS Maximus IV Extreme -Z - LGA 1155 - Z68
New Bulldozer with a ASUS Crosshair V Formula - AM3+ - 990FX
GPU
ASUS EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5
Sapphire DIRT 3 EDITION Radeon HD 6950 2 GB
ASUS ENGTX570 DCII/2DIS/1280MD5
EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD Double Shot 1280 MB
I heard that HDs 6950 are less power consumption than the Nvidia 570 GTX. Anything beyond those will be off my budget which means that 580 GTX or HD 6970/ 90 is not an option. I'm not planning to upgrade my Monitor so my max resolution will be atm 1920 x 1080.
Last considerations:
I use my computer primary game and sometimes a video editing but nothing hard. Also I'm old fashion with tons of vanilla games installed in my computer so I will probably be using Windows 32bit with only 4 GB Ram. Between Corsair and G.Skill which one will be the best for the above system?
Sorry for all these questions and I hope to get some help/ opinions here.
Cheers,
JohnnyR2D2
