I am currently running a AMD Sempron 3400+ on the A8M2N-LA. HP says that the board will support AMD Athlon 3800+. However, other sites, like "cpu-upgrade" list a host of other processors for the board. Does anyone know if it would be safe to use this list? View it here:

In a nutshell, I found a reasonable priced AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHz 512KB Socket AM2 Dual-Core but not sure it will work.

Also, the model that I am looking at is ADO5000IAA5DO-R ---not listed in the "cpu-upgrade" chart. Same except for the trailing letters. I don't know what these signify so your help would be really appreciated.

Here is the CPU I'm looking at.

Thanks again!

So, what does one do if the cpu is not recognized by the bios? Dead end? Or is there a workaround? Just don't know.
Thanks again, Rick

It's not certain what can happen if you try to insert an unsupported CPU in the motherboard. It may work, it may not... or somewhere in between. Meaning the CPU may work, but not at the rated speed.

Back in 2003 I built my 1st home theater PC using a mobile Athlon XP CPU in a BioStar motherboard. The CPU worked fine, but was identified as an "unknown CPU".
