Gents,

I'm got a gtx 570 right now with a board that doesnt support sli, only crossfire. I was thinking of going 6890x2 2gb boards in crossfire mode.

Will it be worth the cost? i'm getting mixed reviews online. I thought i'd seek counsel from you guys. i'm running 2600k at 4.5 ghz and 16 gigs 1600mhz ram. 1000 watt corsair psu.

My tech friend says it's not worth it because my board UD3-p67P is pci-e-16 and pci-e-8, thus reducing the advantage of crossfire. he wants me to get asus oard when available, i dont really want to rip out this board. Already worked around the sata 3 issue.

I'd really appeciate your thoughts and input please.

Thanks for your time.

I play at 1920x1080.. HD on a 55" led/lcd 240 refresh rate. I know overkill but yikes games look good.

Single monitor.

Budget isnt really an issue up to the costs of 2 6970 2gb. But again, im stuck with crossfore no sli, otherwise i'd go get another gtx 570.

Thanks.

Thank you, my friend was touching on that issue. that issue with x16 x4 xfire wont affect a dual gpu on one card will it. Was hoping for release date for gtx 590. would that be a good choice? or 6990 dual gpu.

Thanks again.

BTW - Nice to see a fellow Sandy Bridge owner on the forum. You and i are one of few

I bought a raid sata 6 card so all is well. The sandybridge is fantastic. Stays uber cool at 4.5 ghz. tempting to push to 5 ghz. Had a funky ram issue though. when I loaded up 16 gigs 4x4 it freaked out till i bumped voltage to 1.7. gygabyte told me to bump voltage. hmm.

The 590 and 6990 are coming in march. When? Leaks have shown the 590 coming in mid march where HardOCP already has there hands on a 6990 for testing. If you can wait a month you'll be able to buy a dual card for around 600-700 bucks

I will, they seem to be in a mexican standoff on release date so they other can tweak thier card a little.

Amd is supposedly waiting for Nvidia to launch but Nvidia will bring the 595 if the 590 fails to beat the 6990. Big issue is just cooling these dual gpu beasts.

You have a nice setup dual gtx 580's, yikes. you try higher OC your 2600k? what do you think about me having to run voltage for ram to 1.7v?

I can hit 5.2Ghz but it's not needed so i backed her down to 4.6 for daily use. I actually have my ram voltage at 1.58 for DDR3 1866. I've heard with excess amounts of ram ie 16GB you need to run it higher.

you know anyone stocking an asus motherboard that supports SLI? then i'll go with original plan and get another GTX570.
