Or the current 300D/Rebel with the Russian firmware hack.

"similar" in what sense?
Both the Pentax *ist D and *ist DS have the feature.

The mirror lockup feature in the D70 is only for cleaning the sensor. It can not
be used while shooting.

The D100 doesn't really have mirror lockup, it DOES have an
'anti vibration' feature that pauses for a moment after the
mirror rises to give the vibrations a chance to dampen.
(The only time you can really 'lock up' the mirror is in
'cleaning mode', but only while attached to an A/C power
source.)

Correct, but other than sensor cleaning, why would one want to use MLU
if it isn't to reduce camera shake, which is exactly what the D100's
anti-vibration feature does?
...maybe to enter a 'shoot blind' competition?
...or some sort of battery saving concept? For which I guess a physical
lockup is required?... do the Canon DSLRs have this?

Unless you consider the 20D, KM 7D or Oly E-1. He didn't specify that he
wanted a Nikon.

What part of "similar to the *NIKON* d70" don't you understand?

Well, there's "similar" which could include any DSLR with less than a full
sensor, similar in that it's under $1500, $1200 or $1000 (pick one) and
there's "similar in that it has 'Nikon' writ large upon it. Too many
choices...

What about if it uses the same sensor but is not a Nikon, Pentax *ist DS has
it.

Like I said, "too many choices." That would be another "similar."

If you consider it a necessary feature, then it would make another camera
"better" I suppose.
