Hello,

Buying a laptop which will be used downstairs in my house, has to have
EXCELLENT multimedia functionality (Want MS Media Player 2005), and
basically be a powerhouse. I really like the lookof the Qosmio G20-105 -
and am ready to stick the £2K down tonight...

The resolution?
1440 x 900 (I believe they call it WXGA or WXGA+)

Is this a good resolution for such an expensive laptop with 17" screen? I
know different aspect, but is it comparable in icon size etc to 1024 x 768,
or 1280 x 1024 and so on...

Would you recommend a 17" laptop which has a crazy resolution such as 1900 x
1200? (I imagine the text must be ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to read)...

Let me know your thoughts, specifically on screen res. Battery life etc etc
not important to me, the unit will not be moved (will not be portable).

G.

I do not know if it was simply humor, but there is a report that Dell is
introducing a 19inch laptop. I have not yet check the Dell site.

Frankly, I would never purchase a notebook computer for exellent media
capabilities, especially at the price of the Qosmio. I think you can do
far better with a small form factor media box, a media center box, or a
desktop. The latter will have upgrade/improvement paths that a laptop
will never have at about the same general price you will pay for the
Qosmio. Just what the heck is a "Qosmio", anyway?

Screen legibility is greatly improved at high resolution with the new
bright, high constast LCDs. Nevertheless, screens, like keyboards, are
very personal and one person's opinion is simply that. Only you can be
the judge of what works for you.

IMO, YMMV.

I will also be purchasing an under the TV box shortly, and when that time
comes, the Laptop to TV days will be numbered, however - I would still like
a decent laptop for in the garden on hot sunny days.

Regards,

Gary.
