I have a Dell XPS 735t with a intel i7 920 with a 475w power supply. They said I can only upgrade it to a 550w because of the motherboard. Is this true, or BS, and I could install a higher wattage supply? :fou:

In my experience there is no such thing as a power supply that can deliver too much power.

You can use any power supply you want as lng as it complies with the requirements for your computer. Many higher wattage PSU's are longer than the standard because of the size of the printed circuit board inside it. That may be why they are telling you that you can't go above 550W. Also, they are probably quoting off of their own spec sheet for that computer and that's the maximum supply that they ever built it with.

Just make sure that any new supply you plug in exactly matches the wiring required by your motherboard and devices before you turn it on. Some computer manufacturers made computers in the past which were not wired exactly the same as everyone else.
