Thermal paste removal

Happened to purchase a refurbished Intel I5 and oddly in shipment the side which mates with the mobo came into contact with some of the thermal paste (packaged very poorly). What would be the safest way to remove it before installation. TIA, V.

Isopropyl alcohol and either a piece of a coffee filter or a lint free rag (an old T-shirt works well).

+1 or nail varnish remover is also an alternative if you dont have any isoprop, no i dont wear nail varnish but my mrs does lol

I use this with at least 90% alcohol. It is also known as rubbing alcohol.

Be careful about using other forms of cleaners. Some may leave a residue that your not aware of and actually hurt heat transfer. Isopropyl 90% or better is the safest best bet.
