Only have enough cash to upgrade my CPU/MOBO or GPU. Can spend $300 or so. My monitor is 1920x1080.

Current system:
C2D e8500
4gb ram
Radeon HD4890
500gb HD
Windows 7 64 bit

I can upgrade either the C2D to a Sandy Bridge or the GPU, which will give me the bigger boost? Which is better long term? And which CPU/Card would you get?

Thanks!

Upgrade your CPU/Mobo. Your GPU should last a little while.

Do you have to count in DDR3 ram in your budget?

Yeah DDR3 is pretty cheap, I can easily snag 4GB. So will upgrading mobo/CPU to i5-2500k give me that much of a boost?

My gpu is a geforce gtx 275 on par with your 4890.My previous cpu was a low end core 2 quad q8200.With that cpu and gpu I go 25 fps average in crysis very high. When I upgraded to the core i7 870 my performance in creased to 35 fps in the game.So yeah upgrading the cpu may give you a boost in all games

An i5 2500K will make a huge difference from what you have now. I went from an E8400@4ghz to this i7 2600K and it is night and day.

yeah it will definitely be worth,i7 is next generation and e8400 is previous one.
