I have been given this gigabyte mobo and i want to get some more RAM for the system. I am new to this and was wondering whether some RAM is more or less compatible with this motherboard. I am looking at getting 16GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz (4×4GB). The reason for this amount is that i will be running a Windows XP as a VM for a load of music production software (my soundcard company doesn't have driver support for Window7). I need to assign a good load to the XP VM and retain a good amount for W7.

I have also been given an AMD Phenom II ×4 955 3.2GHz, which i am currently using. Is there anything else i need to think about regarding RAM selection? I am looking at upgrading to an i7 and a Z77 mobo in the not too distant future and want to make sure the RAM i choose will be able to stay true to the times.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
