Hi guys,

Recently i looked at toms hardware forum and found out that the new ati 6990 comes out march 8. I am very concerned should i get it over 2 570 or not? What will give more performance?
Some people say that 6990 will get too hot when overcklocking to get the high fps. I really need help here.

Thank you guys for your help,
Regent Square

Speculation will mean nothing. You'll have to wait until reviews come out.

One, the 2-570's are furnaces. Two, no need to over clock that card ( 6990 ). Plenty there. This a post to goad people ?

Two 6970's in Crossfire are way hotter than two GTX 570's in SLI. It's a good bet that the 6990 will need to be crippled somewhat to fit within the power limits supplied by two power connectors plus a PCIe slot. My guess is that, if the 6990 is basically two underclocked 6970's, then two GTX 570's in SLI will be faster. I'm also going to guess that only those with a full tower case will be able to fit a 6990. If you are wondering about a dual chip card, then the GTX 590 is also due out soon.

What, you can't wait a week to see how it turns out? I'm guessing it will preform at or a little below two 6950s in Crossfire and is really meant for people who want to run eyefinity with 6 displays.

Is this confirmed? I heard the 6990 isn't gonna be released til about a month after the GTX 590 which is being released this month.

rumors say that the 6990s core is clocked at 830mhz so its like 2x 6960s in crossfire xD

I also heard they were going to wait and let the GTX 590 come out first.

Wow the maximum Powertune power of the OC 6990 is more than I use for my whole system when I'm gaming. My system consumes ~400W and only hits ~500 when I stress test using Furmark

Thanks for helping me, guys. I have also heard as i mentioned above that 6990 will get too hot. But i do not think that it will be turn crazy hot if i will overcklock it to 850mhz. If i will go with this card, is 750w gonna be enough? And by the way, is it better to have 1 beast card then having 2 good cards in sli/crossife?

Thanks for help,

The 6990 has 2 gpus on it so it actually is crossfire, it's just going to be a little faster since it's all on a single PCB.

Generally a single card is simpler than CF/SLI, but bang for your buck it's always better performance/$$ to go with CF/SLI (like the SLI 460s being cheaper and faster than a 480)

Thanks you for a quick response. I will keep it in mind. 570 sli is gonna be my choice. I will get 1 for my build and another one later. Approximately, how much time 570 will be in stock? gtx 290 series were a good cards, but now there are no more of them in the stock.

At least a year for sure, probably up to 1.5-2yrs as long as you're not buying special editions.
