Different between dual core and core 2 duo

A dual core processor is a CPU with two physical processors on it. For the sake of simplicity, imagine two Pentium 4s compressed into a chip that looks the same as one Pentium 4 from the outside. (Actual implementations have far exceeded the processing power this would provide)

The Core2 Duo was a family of Intel dual-core processors. It's a couple generations old now, having been superceded by the first generation Core i3/i5 and subsequently by the latest generation Core i3.
