Is a crossfire between a 5830 and a 5850 a viable option? I currently have a single 5830, and with the recent price drop, a 5850 looks well worth its price. But it's not worth having to toss an older card for. I haven't seen much about 5830s crossfired with the 5850s, one of the reviews about mixed gpus showed the 5830 with a 5870. Would it be better to just crossfire two 5830s and not bother with the mixed gpu setup? The 5850 runs at a slower clock, so I would assume the 5830 would just slow to the same clock speed. The 5870 has a higher clock speed than the 5830, so the 5870 would be hindered. I also want to avoid having to overclock any cards, since I would like to keep my warranty. I: Mixed gpu setups are a pain.
Another 5830 costs 155, while the 5850 costs 190, according to newegg, yet I have a feeling that mixing in a 5850 would make a big difference.
Also, my computer is running an i7-870, so I shouldn't have any bottlenecks.
So would a 5830 and a 5850 be a reasonable idea?

Well you wont get any benefit from having the 5850, compared to say a 2x5830 rig. So get a 5830. Or you could get a 5850 and use it as your primary GPU, then enable crossfire when you need that little extra edge on games which like crossfire. If the 5850 you are looking at is the MSI Twin Frozr II, then GET IT! They overclock like hell! 25% easy.

The 5830 is crossfire capable, though it's strange AMD doesn't even list it on the crossfire compatibility chart any longer?:

At any rate, I would say you'd maximize your performance with two identical 5830 cards rather than mixing it up. You don't want to throw another variable in with any driver issues you may experience in crossfire.

You can crossfire your 5830 with a 5850 however it will never be as good as two 5850 in crossfire.

Thanks for all the pretty good answers guys. Looks like just sticking to a pair of the same cards is the safest way to go.
