here's my issue... my rig consists of an i7 940@ 3.52ghz... 12gigs of ddr3 @ 1604mhz... ssd patriot... 300 gig raptor... annnnddd an ati hd4870 1 gig

now i noticed another chap on this site posted a similar thread on this same build but his build had 4xhd4870... mine only has one. at first i'd seen my pc slow down... no frame drops or anything... but sluggish input... cod4... ping of 30... my hit detection would go to crap... i have fairly awesome internet... i noticed a little something though... i would type in vid_restart in console... hit detection would be awesome even at max EVERYTHING! but after about 3-5 minutes of playing the sluggishness returns... i figured out the vid_restart command from a buddy of mine... how it came out was... i was messing with my sound settings in cod4 and had to apply and it reset the video as well... so i thought this whole time it was my sound... so i bought a xonar dx 7.1 high fidelity audio card. didnt fix my problem. so! this leads me to believe only one thing... videocard... memory clock on this video card is at fridge temps... 1100mhz max... when you have a cpu processing 3.52ghz a sec x 4cores and memory with a qpi<quick path interconnect/alternative to fsb... of 3208mhz... made me believe one thing... my videocard needs replacing... im thinking a pny gtx 460 1 gb... memory clock of 3.7ghz and a gpu clock of 765mhz... this should cure my problem of this bottle neck< a beer sounds great right now.

A GTX460 is a minute upgrade from a 4870. Don't waste the money. If good 4870s were still around, and the price had dropped, I would suggest getting another one, unless you were playing Blizzard games, which don't support crossfire. Get a 470/570/560/5870/6950 in no particular order. I play with a 4870 1gb, and don't have any problems on games other than blizzard ones, which stinks, since that means my other 4870 is utterly useless. I play at 1650x1080 though.

well... a quick update... i purchased the pny gtx 460... and it kicks @$$
