Hi there

basically I feel my system is not performing as it should as a friend of mine has a similar rig and is playing battlefield 3 online near on ultra He does have a i5 2500k and 8GB@ 1600. A earlier post and people where saying I would not notice that much performance over my 955 & the i5 2500k . I on the other hand have to sometimes play on low just to get smoothness whilst gaming. Also today I though I would install Crysis 1 and have a little go and sadly as soon as you come to disable the 1st jammer it lags slightly. I have done 3dmark to see if my score is good which it is.

My system

CPU AMD-955BE@3.2

GPU-ASUS GTX 570 DIRECTCUII@ 1.25GB

RAM-2X2GB MIXED RAM @ 1066

MOBO-M4A78LTM

PSU-850WATT XFX CORE EDITION

CASE-HAF 922

BF3 can suck up to 7.5GB (1GB OS + 3.5GB BF3 + 3GB+ Shared to GPU(s)). Relevant article - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ram-memory-upgrade,... Obviously, the SB is also faster and less of a 'bottleneck' than your 955BE so you may also want to consider OC'ing your CPU.

On air I can go to 3.6GHZ but reach 62c is that ok

^That's fine, get an additional Kit or IMO better to get a new 2x4GB Kit, and IF you're increasing the FSB to 240MHz then look at DDR3-1600 CAS 9 kits if not then stick to DDR3-1333 CAS 7~8 which performs very well. Also, in most cases with AMD and 4GB/stick densities I recommend using the latest BIOS.

C3 stepping and when I overclocked it I up the multiplier by 2 to reach 3.6. The ram are same speed but different makes.

SO is 62 ok or not as both have different answers. that is at full load by the way

CPU Temps - It's not outside the range of norm and it depends on the Ambient, HSF, air flow and what App is producing the Load.

Apps like LinX can add higher temps.

One more thing, as I already mentioned #1, IF the plan is to get DDR3-1600 the BE allows for (2) choices: 1. FSB -> 240MHz, or 2. CPU-NB Frequency -> 2400MHz (BE only). Otherwise you'll be throwing errors or BSOD with high loads.

Lower Temps are indeed better but again 62C @ 100% load didn't nor doesn't surprise me...it's within norm. I too have built AMD and used that CPU...

hit the multiplier to 3.6GHz only right.?
do you have CnQ and C1E enabled.?

62C is OK but not preferred.
and how did you determine it's full load, were you gaming or stability testing.

Yeah gaming never really used prime or stressed the cpu for that matter. Thanks for help

Sorry I do have CnQ enabled and driver installed and C1E enabled

I am using stock fan with already applied paste. I do have Arctic Silver 5 and MX 4 still not used as going to get a after market cooler.

IMO use MX-4, I quit using AS5 a long time ago. AS5 is electrically conductive, take 10~14 days to fully cure, and a slightly poorer performer. I assumed a stock HSF.

Changing the TIM might drop the temps 0C~3C, and cleaning your HSF will contribute to most of the difference.

Ryan did an excellent write-up - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/274824-29-thermal-com...

Talk about double-talk:

"Not Electrically Conductive:
Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)"

What would you both say would be the best Cooler for me.

Depends on the OC, as mentioned the CM Hyper 212 EVO is plenty for most OC's, and t comes with decent TIM so save your money buying AC5 or MX-4.

I already have both but if the evo is ready to go then it is a next purchase.

BTW my motherboard supports up 125w

Guys I have a problem my PSU is now making a clicking noise every so often it is more noticeable when shutting down and booting up. It is a new PSU and not even a year old and what I though to be a good make

IMO - if it's anything other than a PSU fan (cleaning or obstruction) then just be warned a bad PSU can kill your rig: GPU, CPU, Drives, RAM you name it! RMA the PSU and with many companies you can get an Expedited aka Cross Ship RMA -- you'll need to give them credit card info (hold) which will cut the RMA time in half.

Could this be due to overclocking or not don't get why this psu is making this noise as it is a good make and not even a year old.

Hi guys I have got my new ram http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B-1600M...

I have voltages @ 1.5 running @ 1600 Thing is I did NOT see any score improve within windows ratings it just stayed the same. Also the other day whilst playing BF3 I quit a game to have my pc shut down completely I would have like to look at temps on the cpu because I think it was near 70 but not sure. Then yesterday with my new ram playing a game and it just frooze with some horrible sound so I just turned off from psu. I tried to reboot but had to take ram out and place back in done a windows memory diagnostic test came back fine. I think it may also have to do with the voltages below 1.5. Last thing is psu I have noticed that it makes the noise when medium usage and does not when internet browsing so I now am only using pc for rma with xfx(which I will never purchase a single thing from them)and help from you guys.
Trail and error and stupidty seems to be me of late. O yeah I am no longer overclocking cpu until I get a h50 decided for the money it will do me good unless you guys think the evo is a better choice.

Many thanks again for your time both of you :)

My first thought was a matched RAM set.

Also, go for as large as you can afford of a Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe SSD, if you can afford it. They are fast.
