Graphics Card Driver Update

OK, it's a stupid question I know but I have to ask. What version do i use? I just built a new rig and for the first time I'm using an AMD GPU, the HD 6870, instead of a Nvidia. Nvidia updates were easy. Go to their sit, put in your GPU and OS and other info and click search. One option would pop up and I would download and install it, easy as that.

After completing my build, and installing the GPU driver from the disk that came with it, I then went into my device manager see what driver version I had and it said 8.782.0.0. I went to the AMD site, http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx#1 , to check for the newest version and got hit with about a dozen possible download choices in three tabs, the AMD Catalyst Packages, Individual downloads, and Optional downloads. Do I use one of the catalyst downloads (I don't even know what Catalyst is or if I'm using it), or just the Display Driver update from the individual downloads tap?

I thought the easy solution would be to go back to device manager and click update driver, which I did and the version changed from 8.782.0.0 to 8.821.0.0, but that isn't what the AMD site if offering which is version 11.2.

So my dumb question is, is the 8.821.0.0 version the correct one, or one from the AMD sit, and if from the site, which one of the dozen possibilities would be the one i need?

To learn about Catalyst - which is just a basic part of their drivers and related software - simply Google "ATI Catalyst" and pick the AMD entry - you will find:

http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/ati-catalys...

A pretty simple thing to find on your own, though.

Just download the Catalyst Software Suite for your operating system. You can go to the page below and use the handy tool at the "Support and Drivers" link on the upper right.

Edit: Here is the link I forgot to add before:

You're best option is to uninstall whatever AMD drivers you have now in ADD/REMOVE.
Install the latest 11.2 CCC package the 74MB package is all you likely need.
