  1. MAC ID is a unique alphanumeric assigned to each piece of network equipment at the time of manufacturer. The code includes the maker's identity.

    The ID is visible to other equipment on the network and usually printed on the equipment case itself.

    In normal use you would become aware of MAC ID as a means of filtering users onto or off a network as a security measure (albeit not a very effective one because MAC ID can be cloned).
