Spiky corruption in Mafia II

I've been seeing spike like corruption in Mafia II. This happens as soon as I start playing so i don't think heating is the cause. I haven't seen it in any other game that I played (COD: Black Ops and Mass Effect). The only other program where I see it is in the 3D Immersed interface of Moovida.

System Specs:
AMD Phenom X2 550 @ stock speed
ATI Radeon HD 4850 with Catalyst 11.1
4GB DDR2 RAM
550W PSU
Win7 32


I've tried going back to Catalyst 10.6, but I still see the spikes. A few weeks ago I took apart my card to clean out the fan and heatsink. The corruption started after that. So did I screw up something?? Any help is appreciated.

that's what's known as 'aliasing'
a common problem where straight lines become spiky or jagged
this is easily solved by using 'anti aliasing'
check the graphic settings in Mafia 2 or force anti aliasing in the catalyst control centre.

I'm not sure that would help. I had been playing it for some time without any trouble before this happened.

Only thing I can say is uninstall your drivers, then run Driver Sweeper to make sure they are gone after powering back up, power down and reseat the graphics card in the pci-e slot. Reinstall your drivers, then try the game again. If its still present, get rid of the drivers again via same process minus re-seating the gpu, and try a different driver release. If its happening on more then just Mafia 2 then that's all that I can think of that could possibly fix the issue. If that doesn't fix the issue, could be your card is going bad.

I'll give this a try. I'll also try logging the temp readings as I play Mafia II so that I can eliminate overheating as a cause. Is there any tool that would help narrow down the cause??

I used GPUZ. Actually I saw later that the readings were not recorded while I was playing. I had forgotten to check the option "'Continue refreshing..."Here's another set of readings. Can someone please confirm if these are high enough to cause the corruption I've mentioned?
