Can I upgrade my i3 to an i7 ? Are the sockets the same ?

I just bought an Asus K73E-A1 which has an i3 2310M dual core processor.

Can I upgrade it to an i7 quad core processor ?

More about upgrade sockets
  1. That Is A Mobile Processor! The i3-2310M!
So The Upgradability Depends On Wether Your Manufacturer Asus Does It!
Otherwise Upgrading Laptop Processors Are Impossible!
  2. I have the same laptop, can i put a mobile gpu in it or are there no slots inside the laptop. Also is the cpu BGA so we cant take it out or will we be able to replace it if i wanted?

This is very, very, very wrong.

Manufacturer's rarely upgrade customer laptops after the fact.
Upgrading a laptop processor is not "impossible." by any means. If it is BGA "socket", then it would be impossible, however, the 2310M is not a BGA socket, it is a PGA socket CPU. It is socket G2 to be specfic. Here is a page about it: http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%20G2%20(rPGA988B).html

Here is an i5 of the same socket: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111025CVF&IsVirtualParent=1

An i7 can also be found in this socket, however, newegg does not sell it. Look for Sandy Bridge Mobile i7 processors to upgrade towards and make sure that their socket is G2.

A mobile GPU is not possible.

The CPU socket you are looking for is PGA (pin-grid array) or LGA (land-grid array), not BGA (ball-grid array). BGA is soldered, and is the main type of socket that CANNOT be replaced easily.

However, yes, this laptop is PGA.
  5. So does this mean the Cpu can be replaced?
