If you want a reliable workhorse for a couple of hundred dollars, I'd
suggest the Fujitsu 600 series. They're on eBay frequently. I don't think
they will take Windows XP, but will go up to Win2000. My wife uses one for
e-mail, word-processing, and limited web browsing and loves it. These
laptops date to about 1995.
Of course, as someone pointed out on this newsgroup, you can get a new
laptop these days for $500 or 600. With XP.

Simply for support the Dell will be better long term unless you know
specifically that Eversham has similar support. IMO, YMMV
