would it be ok if i kept what i had and just changed the processor to an amd athlon II 640? it would be 552
May 11, 2011 3:31:33 AM

It would be OK, but the platform is kind of dead and the 2100 kills it.

As for your build. In my siggy is a 600$ build. Just change the motherboard to this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
And the HDD to this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Total that'll save you around $40 bringing you down to your budget of 550, (560$-ish). You get a better PSU, and a way better GPU.

5850 vs 5770

Why do you need 8GB exactly? The 40$ saved is better off being used for the GPU, or just getting a better CPU (i5 2400 which is 50-60 more dollars).

Better power supply that actually reaches the 80+ mark.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
I can't find reviews on the CX500/600 only the 430, and the review for the 430. But even then forum goer's (not specifically THGF) honestly don't think the 500/600 CX can output close to the 80+ mark.

Or another good deal.

The 5830 is far from the 5850. Not worth what it costs. It'd be better to get the 5850 off Amazon than get it off one site when you don't get a good deal.
