Noob asking a noob question about GTX 480

Hey guys, sorry to be new and instantly requesting help without contributing, but I was wondering if you could help me.

Basically, I recently built a custom PC. Everything is running fine except for my GTX 480, which I have connected to my Corsair 650W using two 6+2 pin connectors, which means I use the 6+2 as an 8 pin and the 6 with no 2 for my 6.

The fans run on the video card itself, yet my system isn't detecting the card, merely the VGA graphics adapter in my processor... atleast that's what i think it is.

Am I using the wrong cables? This is probably a really easy fix and I'm almost embarrassed to ask, but if anyone could offer assistance it would be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

  1. And sorry to double post, but another issue is that the max resolution of my monitor is 1280x1024, when really it should be 1680x1050.

    Thanks once more.
