I just downloaded Xmpeg and have been trying to convert some large mpeg1 files to mpeg4 so I can put them on CDs. Everything goes fine except the mpeg4 has a slight stutter or is jerky. I have adjusted EVERY setting I can find and still there is a stutter (it even stutters in the exact same places every time regardless of the variables altered).
I have an excellent system and have had no trouble with DivX playback until now, I must assume it's Xmpeg. Anyone else seen this problem?
Have you tried it with FlaskMPEG? They are almost equal, only XMPEG is faster (they say). I believe Xmpeg is buggy. For example, you can't encode audio with MP3 coding with a bitrate of 128KBs and higher.
I had no such problems with Flask.

I don't know what settings you have played with so I'm just gonna make a couple of guesses.
How fast is your system really? Tom's is saying that using xmpeg and divx 4.1 that you need at least a 900MHz machine. I believe that divx 3.1 is a lot easier to playback. Anyway I have never had any trouble playing back a divx stream on my laptop until I encoded a home video of us Sky-Skiing. It played back jerky. The reason was that the clip was only about a half an hour long and it filled up a 700M cdr so the bit rate was about 3 times what it would have been for a regular movie and the poor old notebook couldn't handle the higher rate. You could try encoding at a lower bit rate.
The other thing you might try is changing the frame rate. I usually try to go with 23.9fps cause that takes up less space but some thing do not like that speed and must be done at 29.9fps.
Option 3 is to try Nandub. Get a copy at <A HREF="http://www.doom9.net" target="_new">http://www.doom9.net</A> or <A HREF="http://www.divx-digest.com" target="_new">http://www.divx-digest.com</A> they both have lots of downloads and information.

I also tried lowering the bitrate as low as 500 kbps and the clip still snags at the EXACT same locations. Never had this problem when I converted clips with Ulead video studio using basicly the same variables. Only problem with Ulead is it's about as stable as a hang glider in a hurricane. I like everything about Xmpeg except for this one problem. And flask still seems to have this same problem.
