Hi there im looking for a new graphics card but im stuck between 3 choices. at the moment im using a ATI HD 5770. Im the gaming type so im wanting good performance. the cards are GTX 460 vs hd6850 vs HD 5850. all those cards range from R1500-2000 which is around $217- 290 i think. thnx :)

It really makes a difference which versions of those cards you are comparing. A factory overclocked card of any of those types will beat any of the others at stock speeds. There are some very nice models out with aftermarket cooling and factory overclocks for all of those models. So, it would be helpful to know which exact models you are comparing.

I would recommend the GTX 460, just to get PhysX, if there is nothing else that separates them. The other cards don't have it. There are also several very popular games that significantly favor Nvidia cards, such as the Call of Duty series. Based on several forum posts, it seems that Nvidia has fewer complaints about their drivers as well.

ok thnx..im going to go for the gtx 460. Now im looking for the 1GB version of it. So would you reccomend the igame460 GTX460?

It looks like it has a pretty good cooler. There is a stock speed one, and a Turbo version with a factory overclock. If you are able to overclock on your own, you can unlock some extra speed for either one.

Add: After checking out that review a little more, it looks like a pretty good card with some nice custom additions.

Ya i can..the hawk ranges from around R2220 ($321) and talon attack around R3000 ($434)...my budjet is only R2000 pushing it. like i really want the hawk and am looking for it second hand but no luck yet.

If you are at a lower resolution, below 1920x1080, you could go for a 768 MB version, which will cost a lot less. Or get one of the cheap 1 GB versions and overclock it yourself. The reference coolers are excellent.

In the $250 range the 560 Ti is king

The performance was good right out of the box with both of these cards and when it came time to overclock them, I was able to hit over 1GHz on the GF114 cores of both cards and well over 1150MHz on the GDDR5 memory. These bumps in performance from overclocking were not just small bumps, but significant jumps in performance, allowing the GTX 560 Ti from NVIDIA and ASUS to wipe the floor with the HD 6870, its direct competitor.
