dvd burner
asroc board
cooler master psu 500Wat's

update if u had say 100 quid for a processor would u take the
amd x4 870 quad 3.2ghz or something different
May 13, 2011 2:45:40 AM

Are you sure it's 870, I can't find anything about an x4 870. Anyways, I'd get a i3-2100.

Ah yes, missed the budget right there at the bottom. I agree with K1114, grab an i3-2100 if you can. If not, change the processor to a Phenom II x4 955, much faster for only a bit more. If you can, ask for a Antec earthwatts psu, they are more reliable/efficient and cheaper too! Asides from that, looks fine and have fun.

Definately a better build. If you can swing it, +1 to this build.
May 13, 2011 5:33:12 PM

whats different between

XFX HD 5770 1GB Single Slot Cooler Edition 850MHz Dual DVI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card £86.99 - does this card have hdmi

Palit GeForce GTS450
1GB Green PCiEx
( £ 81.00 Inc VAT )

and is there a vast difference between the
x840 which is recently new and the older 955
May 13, 2011 5:39:54 PM

the 5770 and gts 450 perform similarily, but the 5770 has the edge.

The 955 is a much better performer.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/88?vs=188 I know the 645 and the 840 are different, but they perform very similarly.
As you can see, the 955 mops the floor with the 645. This is because of higher clock and more l3 cache/ better architecture in general.

I really would suggest trying to get that build that K1114 suggested.
May 13, 2011 5:45:53 PM

i found a
AMD Black Edition AMD Phenom II X4 965 34 GHz processor
for 110 - would that improve things some what
ps ive had amd 3 pcs 7 yrs ille stick with amd
May 13, 2011 5:49:21 PM

I think it's worth the extra 30 euro's. It would give you a big boost in performance. What is your screen res?
May 13, 2011 5:53:43 PM

well compared to this pc which has been a works pc at home for 3 yrs
this is a mear amd 2.2ghz single core 1 gig ddr2 crt 1024x768

Seems like you have your mind made up. Go ahead and get it if the cost is justified to you.
May 14, 2011 12:13:26 AM

thats why im asking your opinion
which would be the better
just for average medium gamming

640 - 840 - 955 - 965 - are in
my range
May 14, 2011 12:15:46 AM

The 640 and 840 are actually very similar. They just named the 840 a phenom to sound better. I stand by the 955, as it is an excellent value. the 965 is simply a slightly overclocked version, which you could do yourself.
May 14, 2011 12:48:39 AM

you can get it if you wish, it will have a small boost on performance. A VERY small boost, but a boost nonetheless.
May 14, 2011 7:21:02 AM

May 14, 2011 7:38:38 AM

Psu should be fine there, but I'd +1 the 5770 love (I have a sapphire 5770 and they're around £90/95 on scan/ebuyer/overclockers.co.uk at the moment)
if you buy the retail version of the 955BE chip then you should get the heatsink in the box,
sub £50 Mobo> http://www.ebuyer.com/product/174597
and if your near Nottingham then yes, a Toms member is willing to put it all together for you :)

Gigabyte GA-770T-D3L AMD 770 Socket AM3 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

they sold all the parts except the gigabyte board and the 955 phenon
they said quote - they can get thoes parts in + they have all the rest
in the above list, assemble it with 5 yrs warrenty for 393 quid
thats 9 quid cheaper than getting them from ebuyer.

they also said for an extra 30 quid they could add a g force
and i might get this wrong gtx or something 550 for 132.
total was 425 quid. good deal ?

also which is the better gtx. the zoltac ?

May 16, 2011 9:46:34 PM

The GTS 450 and GTX 550 ti are very similar cards, I would not bother with the 550. It sounds like they are charging a bit to much for it anyway.
May 16, 2011 10:13:47 PM

It's an excellent card. If you can swing the price, go ahead and grab it.
May 18, 2011 1:59:06 PM

i cant but - it doesnt stop me getting the system built without the
card - and just add it when i have the cash.
May 18, 2011 2:22:49 PM

You will need a GPU of some sort to use the computer. If you want an upper tier card without the attached pricetag, check out the Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 XTREME 1 GB at $149 here, it's hard to beat.
May 18, 2011 4:50:31 PM

I linked amazon... Newegg doesnt ship it. It was meant purely as a reference. For sure grab that 5830, it performs on par with the 6850.
May 18, 2011 4:58:17 PM

^Sorry Bro, Saw the Dollar signs and brain said 'NEWEGG'
but yes, if I had the funds, I'd grab two of those for me and the gf

July 13, 2011 11:13:34 AM

ok were back finished the decorating so now i can concentrate
on my new pc. back in may we were looking at

AMD Phenom II X4 955 94 pounds
so questions the new x6 would it be ott to get a
# AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition 3.3 GHz
for gamming or is a lower one in the x6 going to perform
just as well?

and would a
Gigabyte GA-770T-D3L AMD 770 Socket AM3 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
run it just as well as the 955
!
