Another thing to consider. I've seen where systems have both built-in audio as well as an add-in card such as a Sound Blaster. It's easy to plug the speaker cable into the wrong port, even for the most savvy user or technician. I've seen that happen often at my work. As the other poster said, it would be helpful to have more details on your system.

Go to 'Control Panel' and click on 'Hardware And Sound'then click on 'Manage Audio Devices'.This should tell you or give you some insight as to what you have going on..and also if the system acknowledges that your soundcard is plugged in along with the speakers.Click on troubleshoot and then it should give you the specifics of what is wrong.Let me know what steps you have taken as far as troubleshooting goes and I can give a little more feedback. In the last couple months,I too have had issues with my soundcards for various reasons.
