7 connections but only 4 ports

We are trying to figure out how to configure our system. We have two desktops with direct connections to a wireless router, one laptop that connects wirelessly and then hear comes the problems...the router sits upstairs and we want to hook up a Apple TV, blue ray player, blue ray TV, and network receiver but don't know how to do it. We bought a second wireless router that we tried to just hook up downstairs, but of course it is never that easy. We do have a wires connection from the upstairs router to the downstairs (so there is a line out), but can't figure out what we need to do to that router to get the other machines to work.

More about connections ports
  1. Assuming the router has wireless -- you could add wireless to the computers best in range. Otherwise add a switch -- will multiply the number of ports.
  2. buy switch for downstairs. Plug in ethernet to any switchport on the switch. Run ethernet from switch to devices in basement.
