Power supply failure symptoms

The computer starts up, but doesn't boot. The monitor doesn't display anything like it isn't on. The fan sounds like the computer is overheating but nothing else happens. Is the power supply on its way out? Any help would be appreciated.

Any power-on or system startup failures or lockups.

Spontaneous rebooting or intermittent lockups during normal operation.

Intermittent parity check or other memory-type errors.

Hard disk and fan simultaneously failing to spin (no +12v).

Overheating due to fan failure.

Small brownouts cause the system to reset.

Electric shocks felt on the system case or connectors.

Slight static discharges disrupt system operation.

..and as always: If at any time you let the Magic Smoke out of the computer, that is always a bad, bad thing... ;)
